LONDON’S first concert hall to be built since the Barbican – Kings Place – is set to open with great fanfare this week, hosting 100 concerts in five days. All eyes and ears will be focused on the major arts complex in York Way, King’s Cross, from October 1 as a panoply of top classical, jazz and world musicians perform in the 420-seat Hall One.
Masterminded by impresario Peter Millican, the 10-storey building will also house restaurants, bars, two art galleries, conference spaces and the Guardian newspaper headquarters.
Among the coming events are concerts by Sir Peter Maxwell Davies, Master of the Queen’s Music; the Brodsky, Duke and Chilingarian quartets; the Classical Opera Company and the pianist Jean-Bernard Pommier.
