Drugs case contempt pair cleared
TWO women accused of interfering in the trial of a notorious Camden Town drug dealer have had their convictions for contempt of court quashed.
Kayla Dawkins and Syretta Elliot, both from Lewisham, were accused of contacting a member of the jury during the three-month trial of Artley Henry, 24, and his gang of seven accomplices for running a £1million-a-year cocaine and heroin market around Camden Road.
Henry, known as “Frostie”, and his gang were sentenced to a total of 34 years jail in April.
Elliot, who was initially indicted along with the gang but whose charges were dropped, and Dawkins, a girlfriend of Henry, had approached a jury member outside the court to ask her whether she was wearing a wig. The trial judge convicted them of contempt.
But a trio of Appeal Court judges said this week that the women had not understood their charges and that the prosecution had failed to show they had intended the trial to be abandoned.
