Sabre star beats team-mate to take tournament gold

OLYMPIC hopeful Curtis Miller produced an outstanding result at the Manchester Cadet Tournament this weekend when he struck gold in the boys sabre.
The talented 16-year-old, who trains at the Camden Fencing Club, beat team-mate Waldo Ramsay
15-9 in a thrilling final to clinch his prize.
With a total of 77 fencers starting out in the category, Miller, who lives in Holloway, also beat club-mate Fabio Artesi 15-12 in the semi-final as Camden sealed a top three finish.
Soji Aiyenuro and Gianfranco Artesi made the last 16 and 32 respectively, while Jack Horrix also put in a creditable performance.
Overall Camden took a team of 10 sabreurs to the competition, which is one of the largest cadet tournaments in Britain, with more than 300 fencers competing in the six weapon categories.
In the girls’ competition, Eucalypta Bradley showed her potential by coming 13th, while Emma Horrix also performed well to finish 16th. Izabella and Aleksandra Sosnowska also did well to reach the last 32.
The club celebrated more success in the Leon Paul Junior Series with Jessica Franklin winning the girls’ Under-15s Foil Tournament in Durham.
