We do not need politically correct police
• I’M delighted Sir Ian Blair is off.
The last five times I’ve run in Primrose Hill multiple police have been stationed on the wide paths to catch and punish green commuter cyclists using non-cycling routes.
As one quiet girl was ticketed and lectured I overheard the hectoring policeman announce it was the Safer Neighbourhoods policy.
What irony and political correctness. While at night time Camden is devoid of foot police and, no exaggeration, people are stabbed, robbed, burgled and beaten, teams of London police do an office shift targeting cyclists, detecting and solving crimes in one go to meet this government’s brain-dead targets.
Our Camden is crying out for a non-PC police chief who puts costly officers where they make a difference and who won’t deter the public from reporting offences so the figures go down.
The fear of crime has forced thousands of my middle-aged contemporaries to leave this lovely city to live in places policed by chief constables who largely resist political correctness by targeting crimes that matter, not ones that are easily found and solved.
Meanwhile, as a scarce police resources are devoted to making quiet women cyclists cry, the knifemen and crooks come out at night to an unpoliced Camden, when the cycle nabbers are at home.
Ian Blair, may your fate be to live in the London you created.
