‘Outstanding’ work praised by inspectors
Glowing reports for child support
INSPECTORS have praised two Camden schools for their “outstanding” commitment to education and child support.
The Royal Free Children’s School and Hampstead Parochial Church of England Primary School were judged “good” centres of learning with excellent features in recent independent reports from the schools inspector Ofsted.
The Royal Free school in South End Green, which teaches day pupils and hospital in-patients, was commended for the ease and speed that in-patients settled in.
Of the pupils in general, the September report found that “personal development strongly underpins their willingness and ability to learn, and is a very significant factor in the outstanding academic achievement”.
Considering the starting points and difficulties of the many sick pupils, the report added, the GCSE grades attained were “an outstanding achievement”.
Headteacher Jude Chalk was applauded for the “effective systems” she had installed since she took over 18 months ago.
Hampstead Parochial head Rebecca Harris was also singled out for her “inspirational leadership” and “excellent work instrumental in the success of the school”. “I am very proud of the children and the staff,” said Mrs Harris. “It is pleasing that [Ofsted] acknowledges the school knows itself very well, because if we are going to carry
on getting better it is very important we recognise our own strengths and weaknesses.”
The school in Holly Bush Vale, Hampstead, was improving rapidly, according to the report, with teachers and governors actively involved. “Pupils flourish and mature socially and academically within a very supportive and caring learning environment,” it added.
Camden’s school chief, Councillor Andrew Mennear, said both schools should be proud of the reports.
He said: “That Ofsted recognises that pupils thrive academically and socially in a caring learning environment is testament to the hard work by everyone, not least the head teacher. “I would like to thank all of the teachers, support staff, governors and the children themselves for all the effort and dedication they have shown.” |
