Decision to block homes is upheld
A PLANNING inspector has upheld a decision by Camden Council to turn down an application to build two new homes in Hampstead.
Developers had hoped to demolish a 1970s bungalow designed by well-known artist and architect Philip Pank and replace it with two houses. The site is next to 1940s singer Gracie Fields’ Hampstead home in Frognal Way. The cul-de-sac boasts homes designed by CHB Quennell and the Sun House, designed by modernist innovator Maxwell Fry.
Gill McAndrew, chairwoman of the Church Row Residents Association, fought the plans on the grounds it would ruin views from Frognal Way and be too close to the Church Row’s Georgian terrace. She said: “We are delighted. They threw out the appeal on every count.”
Architect Alan Power, who was behind the scheme, was not available for comment.
