Song, dance and community spirit at colourful Eid celebration
CAMDEN'S diversity was showcased at an Eid celebration on Saturday at the Camden Irish Centre in Camden Square.
More than 400 people, including Mayor Nurul Islam, attended the event which was designed to promote social cohesion in the borough’s diverse community.
Young people performed multicultural entertainment including Somali songs, Bengali dance and martial arts. There was also face-painting, henna tattoos and food from around the world.
Mohammed Rahman, teacher in charge of the Bengali Education Centre, said: “The aim is to help us create brotherhood in the community and help us to create a dynamic society so that our children know about other cultures.”
The celebration was a joint event organised by the Bengali Education Centre, British Somali Community and ZAD Education & Training who offer supplementary education to children from these communities.
