‘No cloth’ uniform excuse
SCHOOL teachers are used to all sorts of excuses for not wearing correct uniform in school – but has anyone ever heard the one about the worldwide downturn in the cloth industry for children shirking blazers and wearing trendy jackets instead?
New headteacher Robbie Cathcart at William Ellis in Highgate Road has discovered in his first two months at the helm that older pupils are not wearing the black blazers that denote their seniority in the school year system.
Mr Cathcart told parents in a newsletter: “Having a new headteacher always marks a change in how a school is run, with new standards and expectations. For some, especially the older boys, the new expectations are challenging especially in terms of behaviour and wearing our uniform with pride. “Blazers in the most common sizes are in short supply. This is apparently due to a worldwide shortage of cloth.”
He said parents can ensure this global problem doesn’t mean their offspring simply turn up blazerless.
Boys can wear a black blazer of any kind and school badges can be bought from the school’s reception desk and stitched on.
