Proud of our park
• SO after a public inquiry outcome Camden now wish to have a consultation on registration of Talacre Gardens as a Town Green.
For a mother raising her children in Haverstock ward since 1985, Talacre Gardens has become a pleasure to visit. I can all too easily recall the days of a disused skateboard practice run and the motley crew of drunks, deterring people like me from bringing our children.
Now we have a park of which we can be proud and can sit in safely. Soon we will have the attraction of the Gaudi-inspired bench and the creative planting of a children’s climbing area complete with fruit trees, and yet £25,000 of taxpayers’ money has been designated to consult on the garden’s future, which will be heavily influenced by a group of council officers.
The pages of the New Journal over the last year and half have been filled with letters of objection to the developers’ scheme, which would cut the park in two and would stop up the entrance to Dalby Street.
The answer is all too clear: register the Gardens as a Town Green in accordance with the wishes of local people and avert the travesty and the tragedy of generations of children losing their sports facility because they were denied a decent access road.
