Odettes’ cook takes control of the books
ODETTES, the Primrose Hill restaurant that has become a landmark for foodies, has been sold by music mogul Vince Power to his head chef. Bryn Williams is now in charge of the books as well as the cooks. Odettes has been at its Regent’s Park Road venue for 30 years.
Mr Williams, who has previously worked for Terence Conran and Marco Pierre White, said the buy-out had long been a dream of his.
He said: “I love working here so I said to Vince as a joke about a year ago that if he ever considered selling it, I’d buy the place. “He turned round about six months ago and said: OK.”
Mr Power made his fortune in music venues. His Mean Fiddler Music Group managed the Glastonbury Festival and The Forum in Kentish Town, and bought Odettes in October 2006 in a break from his usual business of bars, concert venues and music festivals.
Mr Williams said he did not believe the sale of the restaurant by Mr Power, known for his astute business acumen, was a harbinger of tough times for the Primrose Hill restaurant trade.
He said: “Vince has decided to go back into music – that is his first love. “Primrose Hill is still busy and the restaurant’s thriving. “Vince still comes in to eat regularly.”
