Sunday league: Contenders seal victories
LEAGUE leaders Reddot came from a goal down to beat the Constitution and open up a nine-point lead at the top of the Division One table this weekend in the Camden Sunday League. Billy Evans fired the Con in front but two goals from substitute Anthony Clark and a strike from Paul Reid saw the Dots turn the tie around to seal a 3-1 victory.
Meanwhile title rivals Cobden Athletic also came from a goal behind to beat Phoenix. Phoenix took the lead when James Cole (inset) netted his ninth of the season, a strike he later dedicated to the family of team-mate Scott Thurlow, whose nan died last week.
The turning point in the game came when Cobden keeper Martin Halpin somehow escaped a certain red card after deliberately handling the ball out of his area. It proved a costly mistake by the referee as Cobden hit back to clinch a 2-1 win thanks to a double strike from Ryan Harley.
