Richard Arthur
Health chiefs name mental health boss
MENTAL health chiefs have chosen a former Camden Council leader to fill the top spot in the borough’s Care Trust. Richard Arthur, Labour leader of the Town Hall from 1993 to 2000, is expected to take over as chairman of the Camden and Islington Foundation Trust in March 2009.
He will replace the current chairman, David Taylor, who announced his resignation in October after an angry outburst at a governor.
During his eight-year tenure, Mr Taylor has also faced criticism over service cuts and reductions in bed numbers on trust wards as part of the controversial Cost Improvement Programme.
Mr Arthur, who currently sits on the board of three housing associations, is believed to be the only candidate put forward by the trust’s sub-committee for the three-year post.
