After the heat of battle: Darren Ballinger (left) and opponent Jim Bath
Dynamite books a semi-final spot
DYNAMITE Darren Ballinger booked his place in the final four of National Senior Novice Championships on Sunday when he
out-pointed Jim Bath from Malmesbury ABC. The hard-hitting lightweight, who trains at Islington Boxing Club, showed great composure in the opening round as he dominated the centre of the ring with a solid jab to open up a 4-0 lead.
Ballinger was drawn into a war in the second round as Bath upped his tempo and his aggression.
With the fighters trading toe-to-toe, the Islington man drove his opponent against the ropes with a barrage of commanding right hand shots.
Ballinger continued to dominate the third and final round as he cruised to a 14-3 points victory to book his place in the
semi-finals of the class ‘A’ lightweight division, which will be held this Saturday at Brentwood ABC in Essex.
