Top scorer Cole is missing but Phoenix still grab a first league win
PHOENIX netted their first win of the season in Division One of the Camden Sunday League this weekend despite the absence of leading scorer James Cole.
Taking on Cobden Athletic, Phoenix took the lead midway through the first half when Wayne Moralee headed home Neil Brady’s inch-perfect cross.
Dean Syer doubled the advantage when he latched on to a through ball from man-of-the-match Aaron Clarke. Brady wrapped up the points on the stroke of half-time when he added a third following another defence splitting pass from Clarke.
Cobden pulled a goal back through Ryan Harley but, in truth, Phoenix’s 3-1 victory could have been even more comprehensive, with striker Ricky Lucas being denied two second-half penalty shouts.
Substitute Wesley Borghys bagged a brace as Reddot opened up an 11-point lead at the top of the table with a 2-0 win over Archway Allstars.
There was no end to the action in Division Three, with a whopping 39 goals being scored in just four games. The pick of the results saw the Packenham beat Enate United 12-1, with Jaron Robinson scoring a double hat-trick.
Strike partner Daniel Wright grabbed another three goals, while David Traylor was also on target.
Elsewhere league leaders Lord Tredegar beat Tevekkeli 10-0, while Crouch End Rangers went one better with an 11-0 win over FC Bertoli.
