Reddot’s bid for third win

Holders edge closer in our Camden Sunday League Challenge Cup

CUP holders Reddot are just 90 minutes away from their third successive final in our prestigious Camden Sunday League Challenge Cup after overcoming rivals Phoenix this weekend at Hackney Marshes.
In an explosive start, the Dots needed just 35 seconds to open the scoring when man-of-the-match John Donovan slotted home from close range.
Division One outfit Phoenix were also quick to find their feet as Neil Brady levelled within a minute.
Reddot edged back in front when Donovan’s precision free-kick was headed home by Colm Lawlor, before Steven Bruce added a third from the penalty spot after Martin Lovejoy was brought down in the box.
Phoenix continued to search for a way back into the game and found it when captain Darren May latched on to a Ricky Lucas corner to reduce the deficit. But again Reddot responded, this time with Paul “Trigger” Reid powering the ball past the keeper to restore the two-goal advantage.
Aaron Clarke set up a nervous finale when he pulled another goal back for Phoenix with a stunning volley, but Reddot managed to hold on to their lead to seal a pulsating 4-3 victory.
The Dots, vying to win the Challenge Cup for a third successive time, will now face Cobden Athletic, who beat Archway Allstars 3-1 to seal their place in the semis.
The Constitution twice came from behind to beat Field Crusaders and book their place in the final four.
Trailing 1-0, the Cons hit back to level when Gary Miller’s inswinging free-kick was guided home by a Seb Timmins. The Crusaders snatched the lead for a second time, but again the Constitution equalised when Billy Evans let fly with a screaming right foot shot from the edge of the penalty area.
Evans scored his second to give the Cons the lead for the first time in the game, before Shane Murphy added the finishing touches to a neat passing move to score what proved to be the winner.
The Crusaders grabbed a late consolation from a corner to make for a nervy last few minutes, but last season’s Junior Cup winners held on to seal a 4-3 victory and set up a tie against the Packenham.
Packenham enjoyed the biggest quarter-final win, beating Archway Allstars 6-2. Daniel Wright bagged a brace, while Jaron Robinson, Stephen Collins, Michael Garrett and Tony Hunt were also all on target.
