New Journal readers step up to help Good Samaritan
CHRISTMAS is back on for the Neilsen family after New Journal readers stepped in to cheer up the Good Samaritan.
Last week we reported how mum of two Sarah Nielsen had stopped to help a motorcyclist involved in a serious road accident – and had had her bag stolen from the back of her child’s pushchair as she called an ambulance and helped the victim.
Mrs Nielsen had been standing outside the Camden High Street post office when she saw a female motorcyclist hit by another biker. Her injuries were severe and Sarah sat with her, following instructions over her mobile phone form the emergency services while an ambulance team sped to help.
But as soon as our story hit the streets, generous readers phoned in wondering how they could make it up to her.
One, who wanted to remain anonymous, pledged to cover the £360 bill she had to foot to pay for a locksmith to get into her home – her keys were in the bag.
Another, the former Labour MP Ben Whitaker, made a donation and urged other readers to do the same.
Mrs Neilsen said: “I am overwhelmed at the support that I have received. All the
positive comments and sympathy people have expressed has been amazing. This has restored my faith in human nature. I felt so down and so low, but now I feel so much better about this episode.”
She added if anyone else felt moved by her story, they should send donations to the New Journal’s hamper fund.
