Protest halts Dalby Street bulldozers
BULLDOZERS were halted for six days at a controversial Kentish Town development after protesters prompted the Town Hall to step in.
The demolition of a railway cottage in Prince of Wales Road, the first stage in a 55-flat complex slated for Dalby Street, was stopped after council lawyers contacted developers Findon over legal doubts raised by campaigners about consent to work in a conservation area.
But as opponents of the seven-storey block began to celebrate, the council stressed that it had only “advised” a pause in work while it checked the details of the proposal.
Demolition began again yesterday (Wednesday).
Meanwhile a linked campaign to preserve adjacent Talacre Gardens as a Town Green, which would stop it ever being developed, awaited the findings of a consultation which concluded last week.
