Camden New Journal - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 23 December 2008

A Banksy bailout...

• SOMETHING which brightened up our corner of Chalk Farm is no more – Banksy’s mural of “The Maid” has been painted over. It had been protected by the Roundhouse people who kept it tidied, and survived since May 2006. It is said the artist had concerns over litter and wanted to clean up Camden!
Many have been photographed beside it, and it was the least controversial of his works, though with prescience its political message has come to pass. Much that was hidden is now being uncovered in the present economic crisis. Things we did not need to know are being disclosed.
Perhaps Mr Banksy will pay us another nocturnal visit? That blank space on the boundary of the Roundhouse awaits his invention.
