Camden New Journal - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 8 January 2009

Price hikes

• I'M sure everyone going back to work this week will have noticed how their transport costs have gone up by 6 per cent, way above the rate of inflation, thanks to Boris Johnson.
The price of a single bus journey by Oyster will rise by 11 per cent from 90p to £1; that’s a big rise.  Mayor Johnson appears to be following in the footsteps of Camden Council – and some Conservative councils who have made financial decisions which will not help the local economy.
For example, in Camden, Conservatives and their Lib Dem allies have: increased market trader rents by over 20 per cent; refused to pass on the 2.5 per cent VAT cut to local service users; hiked the cost of permits for builders and electricians by 267 per cent to £33 to bring the tariff “in line with Westminster”,
THEO BLACKWELL
Councillor
Regents Park ward, NW1
