Lindsay starts year with bang
ALISTAIR Lindsay opened his 2009 Highgate Harriers account in style on New Year’s Day with a commanding performance in the Serpentine 10k road race. The experienced runner clocked a time of 33 mins 33 secs to hit home in sixth place from a field of 436 athletes. Club-mate Stephen Whiting also ran well, crossing the finishing line nine seconds later to claim eighth place.
Athletes from rival running club London Heathside were also out in force at the Serpentine meet. Among the top performers was Gavin Evans, who finished in 37.43 to take 25th place.
Graham Bell was the only other Heathsider to finish in the top 100, securing 89th spot with a time of 43.26.
On Saturday Highgate’s Jose Barretta battled against the wintery conditions to take 71st place out of 140 finishers in the Surrey Cross-Country Championships in Croydon.
Meanwhile, other highlights for Heathside saw Matt Cook finish 13th in the Wymondham 10k road race, and Robin Tremaine claim 28th in the Buntingford 10 mile road race.
