The ‘yellowy’ leaflet
Labour see red in colours row

Council pamphlets looked ‘too Lib Dem’

IT might seem like a hue and cry about nothing but councillors in one of the reddest corners of Camden fear an outbreak of yellow fever.
They are angry that new council leaflets and posters were set to ditch the familiar use of Camden’s green colour-scheme in favour of a liberal use of yellowy orange instead.
The Town Hall’s in-house design team only had a sudden change of heart when Labour councillors pointed out the mail-outs could be mistaken for Liberal Democrat publicity.
Designers have now reverted to their traditional shade of green to promote the next round of area forums – meetings where residents get to quiz councillors.
The switch followed warnings that Labour members would refuse to deliver anything plastered in Lib Dem yellow around the streets of Holborn and Covent Garden, an area which has stuck by Labour even when the rest of the borough has voted for other parties.
Labour ward councillor Julian Fulbrook said: “This matter can of course have its humorous moments, if it was not so deadly serious in politics. As the Crossman Diaries record, Dick Crossman in the 1945 election was famously re-assured by a constituent: ‘Don’t get so anxious, Mr Crossman, a goat with a red rosette would be elected MP in Coventry East’.”
The Town Hall insist the splash of colour was orange and not the sunshine yellow seen on the Lib Dem logos.
Officials said it was all part of a “branding” process and that other colours had been used in different rounds of area forums.
A council spokeswoman said: “The issue of using the colour orange was raised by councillors and in order to avoid any misunderstanding the colour has been changed to the Camden Council green.”
