Eilidh Cairns
Mother’s tribute to tragic cyclist
THE mother of a Kentish Town woman killed while cycling to work has paid tribute to her daughter. Eilidh Cairns, a 30-year-old film producer originally from Northumberland, was struck by a lorry in Notting Hill Gate during the morning rush hour last Thursday.
She died in the Royal London Hospital after being dragged under the wheels of the heavy goods vehicle.
The 53-year-old lorry driver was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
Ms Cairn’s mother, Heather Cairns, told her local newspaper The North East Journal, that Eilidh had been a “chirpy, happy, outgoing girl” who enjoyed “the buzz” of cycling. “She was a very good friend of many people – [she was someone] to be relied upon,” she said. “People always used to say they were a better person for knowing Eilidh – that is what her London friends said. “She hated the Tube, she hated the bus, so she cycled. She liked the exercise, she liked the buzz. “She will be remembered as the chirpy, happy outgoing girl that she was.”
A keen snowboarder and sailing instructor, Eilidh had moved to London to live with her sister.
She had just landed her dream job working for film production company Darlow Smithson.
Her funeral will be held in her home town of Ellingham next week.
