Father and son hit bar manager
A FATHER and son attacked a bar manager during a birthday celebration. John Palmer, 46, and his son Daniel, 21, from Kentish Town, were found guilty at the Old Bailey of causing actual bodily harm after jurors rejected their claims of self-defence.
Daniel Horgan, who runs the George IV in Holmes Road, Kentish Town, where the Palmers were regulars, suffered cuts and bruises to his body during the assault on December 28, 2007.
Father and son were at the bar and the mood was “good humoured with a lot of banter”, said prosecutor Gerard Renouf.
Things turned ugly when staff member Georgina McGuinness objected to lewd comments. Mr Horgan said he was grabbed when he asked the pair to “give the girl a break” and was then hit.
John Palmer told the court that he bitterly regretted the incident.
He said: “Danny swung a punch at me. I took a swipe back. It all happened so quickly – a moment of madness.”
They will be sentenced at the end of the month.
