Heath road will be ‘open to cyclists’
THE proposed new road on Hampstead Heath could also be used by cyclists, the New Journal has learned. Controversial plans to build the track from Gordon House Road into the Parliament Hill staff yard has met with stiff opposition – and the Camden Cycling Campaign, who have been lobbying for more cycle paths on the Heath, say they have been told bikers will be allowed along the track.
Jean Dollimore of the cycling campaign said: “We were told cyclists would be able to use the new road.”
However, the campaign hopes the plans will be scrapped – and an early idea of making a new bike route in the same spot is being pursued instead.
Heath managers the City of London are waiting for a Heritage Lottery Fund decision on funding for a £4million package to landscape Parliament Hill Fields, move the café, renovate the running tracks changing rooms and build the new road.
