Kerry Taylor of MTV
MTV backing youth community scheme

YOUNG people are the lifeblood of new music and the secret of Camden’s everlasting cool.
So say the voice of popular music, MTV, sponsors of this year’s Camden Crawl and backers of the accompanying Castlehaven Project.
The global music station has teamed up with the New Journal and youth charity Envision to find 60 volunteers aged 13 to 21 to brighten up the borough in return for Crawl tickets and exclusive work placements.
Kerry Taylor, MTV’s vice president of creative, marketing and consumer press, said: “A key part of the MTV DNA is that we’ve always had a history of championing and supporting young people. Without them, we’re not here, and hopefully in our position we’re really able to give them a helping hand.”
The music channel, which has its UK head offices in Hawley Crescent, Camden Town, is bringing its skills to the Crawl for the first time.
“We’re really keen to give as much back locally as globally,” added Kerry. “Let’s start in Camden and celebrate new music that’s on our doorstep. We believe that by offering opportunities like this it really can make a difference.”
Young people who volunteer for one of the two Castlehaven gardening projects – either at the community centre or at St Michael’s Church – could also win mentoring places working on a live music event at MTV in May.
Every volunteer will receive a ticket to the Camden Crawl.
