Up for the Cup: League new boys Pakenham savour their first trophy win on Sunday
Unbeaten Pakmen on top of the game

League’s undefeated newcomers snatch our prestigious trophy in thriller

Camden Sunday League
Challenge Cup Final

A TRIUMPHANT team of newcomers proved they really do Pak a punch at the weekend when they continued their super winning streak to capture our Camden Sunday League Challenge Cup.
Clerkenwell-based side Pakenham FC have taken the league by storm, winning every single match this season.
And they were at it again on Sunday when they beat experienced Division One side Cobden Athletic at Cockfosters Stadium to win our prestigious trophy.
Cobden made a bright start as Daniel Bensalem unleashed a powerful free-kick from just outside the area. But keeper Jack Carter finger-tipped the goal-bound effort on to the post.
Against the run of play Pakenham, who are still on course for the Division Three title, took the lead when Daniel Wright ran on to a through ball from captain David Traynor and chipped over onrushing keeper Martin Halpin.
Cobden continued to push for an equaliser, but the Camden-based side failed to find a way past Carter, who capped a man-of-the-match performance with a string of impressive saves.
As the game wore on, Pakenham started to dominate and finally found the all-important second goal on the hour. Wright used his pace to beat the Cobden defence before picking out Jaron Robinson, who coolly slotted home to seal a comfortable 2-0 victory.
Meanwhile in the league it proved a decisive day for reigning champions Reddot who beat AFC Brasenose 3-1 to win the Division One title for the fourth time in five seasons. The Dots took the lead midway through the first-half when Steven Bruce added the finishing touches to a neat passing move between Adam Nicolaou and Emanuel Hanson.
Brasenose threatened to put a halt to the title celebrations when Arthur Green equalised, before Tom Sawbridge saw his shot come back off the post.
Reddot rallied and netted a Championship winning victory with a stunning strike from Hanson and another composed finish from leading scorer Paul Reid.
Elsewhere, Sir Robert Peel were crowned Division Two champions after beating Mayville 3-2 in a five-goal thriller at Hackney Marshes. TJ O’Leary, James Lindsay and Mark Dawson were all on target as Peel won the league in spectacular style, netting 43 points out of a possible 48 along the way.
