Headteacher praised for school revival

A HEADTEACHER has been praised after a struggling school was given a top Ofsted report.
Helen Tyler was appointed head of St Joseph’s Primary School in Macklin Street, Covent Garden, in 2007 after inspectors raised concerns a year earlier following a period when a number of temporary headteachers had been in charge.
Ofsted officials who visited the school in January praised it as “good” and said it had “recovered well from a challenging period of instability”. In 2006 it was rated only “satisfactory”.
In a letter addressed to pupils, inspectors said: “We judged that St Joseph’s was a good school.
“You do well in your studies because you are taught well and are keen to learn, and this helps you make good progress.”
Ms Tyler, who was previously head of Kentish Town primary school, said she was “delighted” to be recognised, but insisted the school’s improvement was the product of “team work” and a “shared vision”.
