Swim stars storm to medals
MEMBERS from Camden Swiss Cottage Swimming Club continued to dominate the winners’ podium at the weekend when they took the second round of the Middlesex Championships by storm. Talented trio Alexander Burgess, Harry Needs and Naiomi Wakeham-Aredes were all in sensational form in their respective age categories as they helped lead the triumphant team to a staggering 50 medals.
Alexander won four golds after clinching victory in his 100m and 200m backstroke, the 200m individual medley and the 400m freestyle.
Team-mate Harry scooped four golds and a silver as he powered his way to glory in the 100m butterfly, the 200m breaststroke and freestyle and the 400m individual medley, before finishing second in the 100m breaststroke.
Meanwhile Naiomi swam for four silvers and a bronze. Her second-place finishes came in the 100m and 200m fly, the 200m breaststroke and the 400m individual medley, while her bronze success came in the 100m breaststroke.
The medal count continued to climb with Bogac Ayahn winning his 100m fly and Felix Samuels taking gold in his 200m freestyle and bronze in his 400m individual medley.
Other medal winners were Iyla Skliarov, Lucas Perry-Hill, Alex Mackay, Ed Walsh, Andrew Hardt, Santiago Parilli, Edward Graham, Archie Moat, Alex Peake, William Rittenhouse and Sebastian Maskrey.
The girls’ team was just as successful, with Indigo Mathews, Reut Banaim and Robin Neumann all capturing gold medals among their successes.
There was a healthy rivalry between Sarah Taylor-Reid and Tamsin McKinnon in the 13-year-old girls’ 100m and 200m breaststroke events.
Tamsin beat Sarah by 0.11 seconds to win the 200m trophy, while Sarah quickly gained her revenge by winning gold in the 100m after beating her team-mate by 0.22 seconds.
Devon Robins, Jessica Hobbs, Kelly Hookway and Olivia Willis also all won medals.
