School for deaf rated outstanding

A SCHOOL for deaf children has rocketed from a “good” Ofsted rating three years ago to top grades at a recent inspection.
Following a visit by Ofsted last month, Frank Barnes School for Deaf Children in Harley Road, Swiss Cottage, was recognised as
“outstanding”.
Karen Simpson was praised as an “excellent” headteacher who, along with her assistant heads, had “set a climate of strong teamwork”.
The schools inspection body also commented on how pupils who join the school with “well below-average starting point” abilities – due to their difficulties communicating – had risen to “broadly average” levels by Year 2.
It added that pupils with additional learning difficulties and those who didn’t speak English as a first language “receive an excellent level of support”.
In a letter to pupils, inspectors wrote: “I wish that I could come to Frank Barnes every day.”
