Arsenal’s very own ‘special one’
Fabregas praises quick thinking and decision-making of new boy Arshavin
ANDREY Arshavin’s dynamic start in an Arsenal shirt has left his team-mates drooling in admiration. Club captain Cesc Fabregas hailed the Russian as a “special player” on Tuesday.
Arshavin, who scored his first goal for his new club on Saturday against Blackburn Rovers, has soldiered on through the last two matches despite a gash in his foot that has required eight stitches.
But aside from his grit and determination to fire up the Gunners in the final straits of the season, the playmaker’s quick-thinking performances have impressed his new colleagues. “He’s made a big difference since coming into the team and you can see straight away that he’s a special player,” said Fabregas. “When he plays he always makes the right decision.”
Arshavin’s quick-thinking set up Robin van Persie for a crucial equaliser against Hull in the FA Cup on Tueday.
Arsenal went on to win the game 2-1 and Arshavin, just a couple of months into his Gunners’ career, can already start planning a date at Wembley for a mouth-watering semi-final showdown against Chelsea.
With an almighty tussle with Aston Villa and Everton for qualification for next season’s Champions League gathering steam, Gunners manager Arsene Wenger will be glad he did not wait until the summer to buy Arshavin from Zenit St Petersburg.
Emmanuel Eboue has also been quick to praise his new team-mate. The Ivorian midfielder told the matchday programme: “Andrey has a very sharp football brain and can see possibilities quickly. “Everybody knows what he can do, he’s an excellent player.”
