Still on song: Rampant Red Star shooting their way to a historic quintuple
IT promises to be a make or break month for footballers from Red Star Camden as they look to complete a historic quintuple. The triumphant team moved into the final of the Musical Associations Group Cup on Sunday with a hard-fought victory over Old Ellisians.
Red Star have already booked a place in the final of the Middlesex Intermediate Cup and the London Junior Cup, and are also still in the running for the MA Cup and the league title.
On Sunday the unbeaten side showed tremendous fighting spirit as they came from behind. Trailing 2-0 at the break, Red Star switched to a more attacking formation and were rewarded within six minutes of the restart when Sel Pomeyie scored from close range. Within minutes the scores were level when Andre Germaan headed home a pin-point cross from Arthur Barker.
Old Ellisians were stunned but not finished, and hit back to retake the lead, but again the Camden cup chasers equalised, courtesy of a stunning 25-yard free-kick from Barker.
Kevin ‘Pieman’ Flynn completed the comeback when he fired Red Star in front, before Stephen Augustine volleyed home late on to seal a thrilling 5-3 victory.
