Camden New Journal - CROW by RICHARD OSLEY and PIP WROE
Published: 26 March 2009

Wonder if Elvis has put the Emirates kings back on song...

BACK in the 1980s, they used to play The A-Team theme at Highbury.
The A-Team. Arsenal begins with an ‘A’, see.
Mr T was cooler than anything Chas’n’Dave ever came up with. There was a marching band at
half-time to ensure Arsenal retained its reputation for being a classy club.
Then it went wrong.
In the early 1990s, Arsenal started running out to Simply The Best as if the crowd were all middle-aged housewives up for the day from Surrey, missing the signs to Wembley Arena.
Around Millennium time, there was a similar lack of invention.
The Arsenal DJs played the shuddering beats of Fatboy Slim’s Right Here Right Now.
It was predictable and far too dramatic for what was ahead: Christopher Wreh stumbling about, trying to score against Norwich City.
This season, I thought they’d blundered again by whipping us all into an Elvis Presley karaoke session with The Wonder of You.
Was it a special request from Gunnersaurus? And do the talents of Emmanuel Eboue really meet the emotion that Elvis invested into that song?
Yet, as the season has gone on, Arsenal have actually got it right. It has proven a rousing fanfare to each match, and a worthy ode to the Gunners when they are on song. We should keep it.
All together now: “When no one else can understand me...”

IT has been a particularly excellent week for Spurs fans because we had the ultimate pleasure of beating Chelski.
Along with the ever-crucial three points came the bonus of putting a massive dent in their title hopes, which is enough to make the whole country smile.
It’s also been an excellent week for Ledley King, the world’s greatest swimming footballer. After yet another monumental display in the heart of our rapidly improving side, Ledley was returned to his rightful place among our country’s elite and then very quickly (and wisely) removed. We can only assume that Fabio didn’t appreciate his insistence on practising his breaststroke technique during the stretches and running lengths of front crawl during five-a-side practice.
Still, it must be lovely for Ledley to know he’s good enough to get into the England squad without having to actually play in one of our dire national performances. He’s no doubt already back at Spurs Lodge, in the pool, on his lilo. He truly is the model professional.
So now Spurs have started looking towards the top end of the table and a place in the Europa League, that new jazzy version of the UEFA Cup, which sounds like it could be the new Champions League. Watch out Arsenal, we may meet you in Europe next season!
