Camden New Journal - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 2 April 2009

Why isn’t consultation on the 393 route being advertised?

• I HAVE concerns regarding consultation on the 393 bus route.
Since the extension of the route it has proved in invaluable link for many passengers between Holloway and Chalk Farm.
Unfortunately, several nimby residents have objected to the route passing their homes and want the bus rerouted, no doubt to the annoyance of residents along the roads it is proposed to be rerouted; so where will this ever end?
From a personal view, the 393 passes close to my house in Kentish Town and takes me to my place of work at Highbury Corner, absolutely ideal.
However, selfishness aside, I have met many fellow travellers on the 393 who use the bus from Kentish Town, who don’t live in Kentish Town, but live in places such Cricklewood, Borehamwood and Hendon who use the train to Kentish Town and the 393 for onwards travel.
Kentish Town is a major transport interchange with the Underground and buses which the 393 has complemented well.
However a consultation is to take place regarding a proposed rerouting of the 393 which would actually avoid the Kentish Town Tube / rail station, which would be absolutely ludicrous.
An essential transport hub that knits together the purpose of the 393.
Furthermore, even though I live close to the route myself, about 200 yards away, I have only discovered about the consultation from an irate fellow traveller.
So why haven’t I received a letter asking my opinion or, at the very least, why isn’t this consultation advertised on bus stops or even a poster on the buses themselves?
Yes, the consultation is advertised on the TfL website, and countless organisations appear to be included in the consultation, but what about the actual passengers who use the service? Surely these are the most important people to be consulted.
So come on TfL, either consult properly or leave well alone and don’t give into a handful of dissident nimbys, who want to ruin a perfectly good service for the majority.

Bus noise

AS a long-time resident of Leighton Road I was astonished at the opposition to the 393 bus.
It not only fills a need (as your other correspondents have pointed out) but it is relatively quiet.
But where is the opposition to the 390?
It is also a useful bus, but the racket the engine produces is scandalous and quite unacceptable in an inner-city in the 21st century.
Letters to Transport for London are ignored (or passed on to Arriva, which is the same thing!).
