Future of our sports centres
• IN response to Councillor Flick Rea (Letters, March 26), The genuine concern felt by, to use your phrase, “alarmist residents” actually relates to their perception of how changes to the “operational management” of Talacre Community Sports Centre would jeopardise the current successes of the centre and the loyalty and quality of gymnastic coaching staff.
My family and I have used Talacre regularly each week for the past five years. Not once in that time have I ever found cause to complain about how sports centre is managed. Currently, however, I do have some issues with the “operational management” at Swiss Cottage Sports Centre. You mention that Talacre must be able to face the challenges of the future. In the long-term, one such challenge will be improving the overall wellbeing of the local community, requiring long-term financial support.
For such challenges, great service may not be good enough, it must be excellent and that is what we currently have at Talacre gymnastics. Camden must invest financially in the health and wellbeing of the local community which may mean incurring budgetary losses. Sometimes it may be necessary for local government to make a financial loss in order to create something which benefits everyone.
