Victory cheers from a jubilant Pakenham squad
The perfect Pak!
Epic debut campaign: Newcomers Pakenham’s treble triumph with Junior Cup
LEAGUE newcomers Pakenham capped off a perfect debut season on Sunday when they beat Lord Tredegar to win the Junior Cup and complete a magnificent treble triumph. The victory rounded off an incredible campaign in the Camden Sunday League, which has also seen the unbeaten side crowned Division Three champions and lift our prestigious Challenge Cup.
Pakenham were partying on the pitch at Cockfosters Stadium at the weekend as they let their football do all the talking against Tredegar.
Leading goalscorer Jaron Robinson got the ball rolling when he opened the scoring early on, before strike partner Daniel Wright doubled the advantage after latching onto Matthew Philipson’s through ball.
The game was all but wrapped up before the half-time interval when Tony Hunn met Michael Garrett’s cross to head home a third.
Man of the match Daniel Carins helped marshal the Pakenham defence early in the second-half as Tredegar looked to find a way back into the game.
But any chances they had were soon quashed when Philipson got his 10th goal of the season with an easy tap in from close range.
Tredegar grabbed a late consolation, but even that joy was eclipsed as there was still enough time for Wright to grab his second of the game to round off an impressive 5-1 victory.
Elsewhere Phoenix twice had to come from behind to seal a thrilling 4-3 victory over Constitution. An own-goal and a flying header from John Paul Eyles saw the Division One side level the scores at 2-2.
Midfielder Neil Bralee then grabbed his eighth goal of the season to give Phoenix the lead, before super sub Aron Kennedy came off the bench to score what proved to be the winner.
Division One champions Reddot continued their winning run with victory over AFC Shooters in the President’s Cup. John Donovan returned from injury to open the scoring, before Liam Barnabie added a second with a spectacular overhead kick.
Shooters pulled a goal back, but Reddot wrapped up a good win thanks to goals from Steven Bruce and Jason Medford.
