THE Camden New Journal has been nominated for a top gong at this year’s Press Gazette Regional Press Awards.
After another year of investigative reporting, top-quality community news and genuine scoops, judges say the newspaper is in among the best six higher circulation newspapers in the country.
Other newspapers on the final shortlist, whittled down by industry experts, include papers which readers normally pay for each week.
The awards are considered the newspaper industry’s Oscars and the New Journal has twice won a Newspaper of the Year award – in 2001 and 2005.
In addition, New Journal writers Simon Wroe and Dan Carrier have both been nominated for a Feature Writer of the Year award.
Simon was selected after writing about the night he interviewed a teenager facing an Asbo in the unusual setting of Shakespeare’s Globe theatre.
Dan, a long-serving journalist at the New Journal, wrote about his experiences trekking through the Pyrenees mountains, retracing the steps of his uncle, who fought as a volunteer in the International Brigades.
The winners will be announced at a ceremony on May 9.
