Big fight enigma: Judges rule against power-punching MacAulay

CONTROVERSY hit the C dinner show on Wednesday when fans’ favourite Richard MacAulay was handed a shock defeat in his latest outing.
At the event at London Irish Centre in Camden, the highly-rated light-heavyweight dominated his fight against Jim Duffy from Finchley ABC.
But after four, two-minute rounds of predominantly one-sided action, the judges somehow managed to award Duffy a unanimous decision.
Afterwards St Pancras head coach CJ Hussein said: “To say it was a controversial decision is an understatement. It was a one-sided fight and I have no idea how the judges came to their conclusion.
“The crowd always let you know when there has been a bad decision, and at the end of the fight they were all booing and going crazy. I thought there was going to be a riot.”
Overall there were 12 bouts on the night, featuring eight top fighters from St Pancras ABA, which is based in Talacre Road, Kentish Town.
Debutant Damian Pagan made a bright start for his new club with a unanimous win over Kevin Krutulis from the Peacock Gym in east London.
The talented 18-year-old dropped down two weight categories to fight at lightmiddleweight, and looked sharp and decisive over the three, two-minute rounds.
Clubmate Ady Nkalonatia proved the biggest hit of the night after he knocked out Liam Giacomo from east London in the first round of their middleweight contest.
Islington Boxing Club looks set to enjoy a bright future after brothers Anthony and Patrick Ward also appeared on the show.
Competing at 48kg, Anthony went up against Alfie Disson from Dale Youth ABC in a fast-paced affair.
In the opening round, Disson used the ring well to keep Ward at bay with his long range punches and quick feet, but the Islington boxer stuck to his task and gradually started making his mark.
The powerful 14-year-old found his range in the second round and caught Disson with a series of solid shots. There was little respite in the third and final round as Ward continued to push forward in an aggressive style, earning a deserved points victory from the judges at the sound of the final bell.
Meanwhile younger brother Patrick, who was fighting at 39kg, showed impressive shot selection in his bout against Mason Smith from Finchley ABC.
The quick-handed 12-year-old demonstrated good skill and ring strategy throughout the contest and was unlucky to lose out against Smith, who gained a majority points win.
