Key seat for the next election
• GIOVANNI Spinella’s letter (Key seat for the future, April 9) on the new parliamentary constituency of Hampstead and Kilburn is misleading on three counts.
First, three wards in the Brent side of the constituency have been represented since 2003 by Sarah Teather, MP (Brent East) for the Liberal Democrats.
Ms Teather is one of the most effective, hard-working and dedicated MPs in parliament.
She is a regular speaker in the house on key issues, and has tabled 350 written questions in the last year alone.
She has recently been voted opposition parliamentarian of the year and campaigns on local and national issues.
Ed Fordham, the Liberal Democrat parliamentary candidate for the new Hampstead and Kilburn, would be equally as effective and hard-working for the people of the constituency.
Secondly, Mr Spinella has a skewed grasp of the parliamentary system.
Every MP’s vote counts, not only if they are a government minister, as he implies.
Finally, the people of Hampstead and Kilburn have chosen to elect Liberal Democrat candidates in six
by-elections in the constituency since 2006, with the most recent in Belsize on April 2 this year.
Rather than dictate to your readers whom they should vote for, let them choose for themselves.
