Ladies look to a fresh challenge
PLAYERS from Hampstead Ladies Rugby Club have already set their sights on next season after making a big impact in their debut run in the Second Division of the National Champion South-East West League.
Having gained promotion last season, Hampstead knew that they had one big challenge to tackle as they prepared to travel to new far-flung parts of the country to take on more experienced opposition.
With some new faces joining the squad (pictured) and some old players returning, the ladies quickly became a force to be reckoned with as they took the division by storm. Among their star players was second row duo Fleur Pijpers and Deborah Crossan, who perfected the sandwich tackle.
Trusty scrum half Maja Melendez was also in exceptional form throughout the season, helping to build a solid relationship between the forwards and the backs.
Top try scorer Marcella Collins and captain Ella Mitchell were also both instrumental throughout as they helped Hampstead secure the runners-up spot behind champions Hammersmith and Fulham Ladies.
Reflecting on what has been a courageous campaign, Ella said: “It really has been a fantastic season. Every player in our squad has contributed to the success of the team. “I have faith that the Hampstead ladies will go from strength to strength and will dominate the league next season. “Especially if the influx of new players continues.”

Hampstead wrap up season on a high
London Three North-West
Hampstead 47, Twickenham 7
HAMPSTEAD ended their season on a high with a convincing win.
Winger Ben Fehnert sparked the game into life when he rounded off a superb passage of play to score the first try on Saturday. Dave Mold added the conversion to get the home side off to the perfect start.
Hampstead dominated the half with Fehnert and Andy Levett adding further tries.
But it was Mold who stole centre stage as he scored a try of his own, as well as adding conversions.
In the second half Fehnert completed his hat-trick, followed by another Mold conversion.
Mike Worters capped a man-of-the-match performance with a well-taken try, before captain Dave Gornall scored after some nifty footwork. Mold marked a magnificent display by converting both kicks to earn Hampstead a resounding 47-7 points victory.
