Whoever wins at the polls faces recession and years of funds being slashed
• CONCERNING the headline (Old guard poised for polls return, April 23), let the Labour Party field them – those rejected last election.
Despite local branches lobbying their government, funding has been withheld to allow council housing to be brought up to standard by 2010, because Camden tenants dared to vote against Labour’s plans to part-privatise the housing stock. That alone helped deny them power last election. And surprisingly, despite fears that the Lib Dems and Tories in coalition would fail, it has delivered mostly. Kentish Town baths will reopen in 2010 after refurbishment. Some council property is being modernised, though some street properties were sold for funding. Whoever gets in locally faces years of funds being slashed due to the present recession.
Any party will need young adaptable candidates to convince voters to support them.
