Hollywood star acts as a dog show judge
COMEDIAN Ricky Gervais found a window in his busy schedule of shooting Hollywood films to promote the cause of some less fortunate London residents at the weekend.
The star of The Office turned out at Hampstead Heath on Sunday for a dog show aimed at raising funds for abandoned dogs and cats.
The Mayhew Animal Home, which organised the event, invited Mr Gervais to judge the “Handsomest Male” category. Other categories included “Prettiest Female”, which was won by a dog who had lost a leg through abuse.
A spokeswoman for the animal shelter said Mr Gervais, who lives in Hampstead, is a long-term supporter of the charity who was unable to adopt a dog himself because of his hectic showbusiness lifestyle.
More than 30 animals are abandoned every day of the year. Mayhew said it was delighted with how successful the day had been, adding that they were optimistic about the funds expected from the 150 people who completed a sponsored walk which followed the competition. |
