Anger over Israeli army’s ‘show’
PROTESTS over an Israeli army entertainment troupe continued yesterday (Wednesday) evening after the group had hired a bar in Camden Lock for an evening of song and dance.
The Zionist Federation, who organised the event at Dingwalls, were forced to move an annual Israel 61 Family Show from the Bloomsbury Theatre to a secret location earlier this week amid complaints from pro-Palestinian groups.
The theatre’s owners, University College London, claimed a promotional poster of Israeli Defence Force (IDF) performers in uniform had breached a contractual agreement that the show would not be of a political nature.
The Dingwalls event featured the same group of young soldiers that attracted the initial controversy.
Yael Khan, from the Islington Friends of Yibna, said the Israel 61 event was “morally repugnant”. But Andrew Balcombe, the chairman of the Zionist Federation, called protestors “ill-informed”. |
