Camden New Journal - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 7 May 2009

In dark over short-cut

• FOR those of us who live in Gospel Oak and need to go to Kentish Town there is a short-cut (saving the best part of a kilometre) via Arctic Street and Regis Road.
This is especially important for those visiting the doctor in Leighton Road or get the Tube. For mail delivery from the office in Regis Road posties are saved legwork and time.
For many years for reasons that were obscure the passage was closed. Then about a year ago to a great fanfare from our local councillors it was reopened. Alas it is now closed again on “health and safety grounds” by the council.
The only way to find out about this is actually to get to the tunnel under the railway and go all of the way back.
Nobody thought to put a notice on the intersection of Regis Road and Kentish Town Road.
Were local councillors informed and what are they doing about it? Why was it closed and why will it not be reopened until July?
