Ice cream vendor attacked

DETECTIVES believe a turf war between rival ice cream sellers may have led to an assault which left a vendor with a broken rib in Primrose Hill on Saturday.
In an echo of the brutal ice cream wars that gripped Glasgow in the 1980s, a 33-year-old man trying to carve out a new pitch for his ice cream van in Prince Albert Road was badly beaten.
The words “You can’t stop here, this is my spot” triggered the row, police believe.
A second ice cream van was parked in nearby Albert Terrace at the time of the clash.
PC Tom Pearse of Camden Police said on Tuesday: “It appears the victim was assaulted for pitching his ice cream van in the vicinity of rival ice cream vendors.
“Inquiries are under way and I would urge anyone who witnessed the assault or has any information to contact Camden police.”
The injured seller, new to the area, was treated for cuts and bruises as well as the fractured rib after two men attacked him inside the Primrose Hill park area.
