Swimming: Pool kids target promotion

CAMDEN Swiss Cottage Swimming Club showed perfect pool promise at the weekend with super swims to win round two of the Junior League.
Despite the absence of key swimmers, the Camden contingent managed to dominate with another display of its extensive and well managed programme.
Among the star performers was Elizabeth Vann, who recorded a string of personal bests to secure valuable points in the girls’ age 10 category.
The speedster, who trains with the Swiss Cottage Development Group, helped the team to third place in both the 50m breaststroke and the 50m butterfly after clocking times of 47.58 seconds and 44.38 secs.
Elizabeth then combined with Maggie Hamley, Indigo Mathews and Rowan Thomas to put in a in scintillating team performance in the 4x25m medley relay.
Other results saw Rowan Thomas, 10, improve her efforts in the 50m freestyle by two seconds, bringing her time down to 36.10. Team-mate Rebecca Peake enjoyed a convincing win in the 50m breaststroke with a new personal best of 43.70 secs.
Sophia Parvizi-Wayne, overcame a knee injury and was in cruise control in the 50m freestyle with an impressive time of 30.50 secs. She could still find herself challenging for medals at next year’s County Age Groups.
Camden Swiss Cottage can look forward to a bright future after both the age-nine boys and girls put in outstanding displays.
The girls’ freestyle team were triumphant in their relays, with Mathews, Maddy Hookway, Brennan Megregian, Carter Nelson and Darcey Hookway all dominant in their sprints.
Sebastian Maskrey was in tremendous form in the boys’ breaststroke, winning his races in style. Hok Wong, James Slade and Ben Hatch also put in super swims in the boys’ 11 years division.
Overall Camden Swiss Cottage scored 233 points to win their second junior meet – 50 points ahead of their closest rivals. Finishing runners-up in their opening fixture, the club have got promotion within their grasp as they prepare for the June 28 final meeting.
