Rosie ready for national challenge

ROSIE Hughes became the 19th member from Camden Swiss Cottage Swimming Club to qualify for the Nationals at the weekend when she shone at the UK Challenge Meet at Hatfield.
Rosie, who trains under coach Mark Allen, swam a personal best 1.07.77 for the 100m backstroke to meet the national qualifying standard of 1.08.25.
The 14-year-old also swam a personal best in the 100m free-style of 1.03.91 to finish 28th.
Amelia Brown, 12, won gold in the 50m freestyle, setting a new competition record of 29.59 secs. Competing in the 11 and 12 years age group, Amelia also gained a sixth place finish in the 100m freestyle in 1.04.31.
Naiomi Wakeham-Aredes, 16, won silver in the 200m individual medley after shading 1.62 secs off her previous best time to touch home in 2.25.86.
In the girls’ 15-years group, Jessica Hobbs won silver in the 400m individual medley.
And Tamir Gonen Cohen captured a bronze in the 200m butterfly in the girls’ 12 years age group.
In the boys’ 15-16 category, Ed Graham and Leo Jaggs added to the events they have already qualified for at the Nationals.
Ed swam a personal best time in the 400m freestyle to finish fourth, while Leo gained his second qualifying time with a fast 54.97 to take 11th place in the 100m freestyle.
