Gymnastics joy: Club kids prove they’re up there with the country’s best

CAMDEN Gymnastics Club can look forward to a bright future after their top boys’ team displayed their skills at the finals of the National Development Programme, in Newcastle.
Guided by top coaches Alex Pakrah, Steve Russo and Ivan Pastore, the six-strong side more than held their own as they competed against 60 of the country’s top young athletes.
Representing London, Luke Apata helped his team win bronze after securing a respectable 12th place finish in the under-9s age group, earning him a place in the National Development Squad for the coming year.
Issa Francois also clinched a spot in the top squad after taking 10th place in the under-10s category. Team-mate Kemi Omoshebi enjoyed his debut in the competition after finishing 25th in the same age group.
In the under-11s division, talented trio Joel Loen Benitez, Dominic Sesto and Theo Gale just missed out on the medals. Joel was the highest placed Camden member in 10th place, booking a spot in the 2009 National Squad.
