People left in the dark on plans for property review
• IF you are living and/or working in Gospel Oak you may be unaware that this is one of Camden Council’s pilot localities for its property review.
So far residents have been kept very much in the dark but a paper is about to go to the council without, so far, any local consultation of proposals to sell of large chunks of the area for private development.
Possible sites (information is hard to come by) include the Gospel Oak housing office and adjacent buildings one of which has very recently been refurbished at considerable cost to council taxpayers.
Another is the Weedington Road Play centre, now reopened after nine months’ closure and a refurbishment costing, it is rumoured, although again there is considerable secrecy, more than £1million.
This large site is thought to include workshops, a garage, shops and a pub and also the area where Queen’s Crescent market stallholders have their store sheds; all businesses employing local people
One must presume that our local Conservative councillors are aware of these and other property developments in Gospel Oak as I understand there are many more such proposals.
However, they do not share their knowledge with the local electorate.
