Checking for defective pavements
• REGARDING Susie Green’s accident (Writer wins two-year fight for trip damages, May 28) with great interest, I too had a bad fall in 1996 and had the same ridiculous letter from Camden’s insurers.
It said I should have checked for defects in the pavement before walking on it, avoided walking on the pavement, and the best one, to stay where I was and report the defect, then wait for Camden to repair it. I kid you not. They repaired it six months later.
Ten years later I developed severe pain in the knee that I had injured in the fall whenever I tried to bend it. Now, some days, painkillers help and I can walk fairly well but most days I can barely get anywhere. I cannot get a disabled badge, because I am not disabled enough.
Ms Green will probably have this further humiliation to look forward to in the future.
