Last of the literary dinosaurs?
• SIMON Wroe’s fabulous piece (A shot in the leg for poetry, June 4) about Dr Fred Grubb, poet, critic and inveterate past walker through the plains of France and Spain, confirmed my opinion that he was what Professor CS Lewis described as “one of the last of the literary dinosaurs”.
In a saner, less computerised world, he would have made an excellent, highly combative and risk-taking Oxford Professor of Poetry, having long backed outcasts of the poetry world like Michael Roberts, John Heath-Stubbs and Arthur Jacobs.
